Protein Taste Review: Ultimate Nutrition Prostar Whey

Category: Reviews | Posted: 02-25-10 | No Comments »

Over the next couple of months I’m going to be buying different brands of whey protein supplements and then giving a short review on what I think of them. I’m also always getting chocolate so that the taste comparison is based on the same flavor. Once I’ve tried a bunch of them I’ll do a longer post about the pros of each so you can make an educated decision when you go to buy your next container of whey.

Currently I’m going through a bottle of Ultimate Nutrition Prostar Whey, and I have to say that this is the worst tasting chocolate whey protein that I’ve had to date. I don’t know exactly what it is that is making this product taste so bad, but I literally have to choke down every glass that I drink of it. Something in this product is giving it a really bad aftertaste.

So when it comes to taste, I would have to give Prostar Whey a 1/10.

Thoughts on NO-Xplode

Category: Reviews | Posted: 12-04-09 | No Comments »

BSN NO-XplodeI’ve been hearing so much over the last couple of years about different NO2 products that I finally decided it was time to see how my body reacted to it. I’d like to share a few of my thoughts about it, and if you have any experience with NO-Xplode or other NO2 products I’d love to hear your comments below.

The Extra Pump

One of the major benefits that people always talk about with NO2 is the additional pump that you get from using the product. I admit that on my first workout or two of using NO-Xplode I definitely felt a better and longer pump than I usually do. But after about a week of using it I didn’t notice it as much.

As I’ve gone through different forums and sites I’ve seen the same concern all over the place. People tend to get a great pump feeling for the first week or two, but then that feeling soon fades.

In my mind this doesn’t mean that the product isn’t working. The way I look at it is that the body adjusts and so you don’t feel it as drastically as you did at first. I will say though that if I really push myself during my workout I do seem to feel a harder pump than I remember feeling before.

Alertness

I’m currently working out at 5am and admittedly, there are some mornings where the brain really isn’t working when I get up. But I have noticed that within a few minutes of taking NO-Xplode I am much more alert and ready to get to the gym. Since I work out so early this has been the most positive benefit for me.

Strength and Power

Another claim made by BSN is that using NO-Xplode will give you more strength and energy to power through your workouts. I don’t know if this is really due to the NO2 aspect of the supplement as much as the creatine and caffeine, but so far I have noticed that I’m able to get more reps out on most exercises.

Final Thoughts

Overall I think that NO-Xplode is a good product. I will say that I personally don’t recommend taking more than 1 scoop of it though. I get the jitters if I do.

For me the biggest benefit to using it has been the energy boost and mental focus that I have during my early morning workouts. If I was working out in the middle of the day or the evening I don’t think this would be as necessary, but for those of us that work out early it’s a great benefit.

Once I finish the bottle I’m using now I’ll go off it and see if I notice a difference after being off it for awhile.

Now I’d like to hear your thoughts on it. If you’ve used this product before, what has your experience been?
